The Shield
The Shield was a television show that aired on FX from 2002 to 2008. The show was created by Shawn Ryan. The Shield starred Michael Chiklis as Detective Vic Mackey, Walton Goggins as Detective Shane Vendrell, Jay Karnes as Detective Holland Wagenbach, Benito Martinez as Captain David Aceveda, and CCH Pounder as Detective Claudette Wyms.
The show received critical acclaim for its unconventional approach to the police drama. It displays the corruption in the police station. The Strike Team Unit, the elite unit within the police force, is led by an effective but “unconventional” officer, Detective Mackey.
The show displays conflicts between Mackey’s methods and interests and the station’s captain, David Aceveda, who wants to get rid of Mackey in order to keep the station’s reputation clear of any scandals, but also appreciates the effectiveness of Mackey’s techniques.
During its seven seasons, the show received 58 nominations and won 15 awards, including two Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama for lead actor Michael Chiklis. The show was FX’s longest-running series.
