Reno 911
Reno 911 was a comedy that aired on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009. The show was created by Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, and Kerri Kenney-Silver. It starred Garant, Lennon, Kenney-Silver, Cedric Yarbrough and a host of other comic icons. The show’s premise was a satire of Cops which aired on Fox Television, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional Reno-based police station.
Reno 911 is known for its political incorrectness. Their topics touch on race, substance abuse, sexual orientation, etc. A group of officers are filmed as they go out on calls. Sometimes they look directly at the camera as though they are talking to the audience. If you aren’t careful you might believe that what is airing is a real cop show until something off the wall is said or done. In one example, a man calls the police to say that he can’t afford to put his dog down. The cops arrive to see the dog laying in the yard, and the man crying uncontrollably. The cops sympathize with him, discuss it amongst themselves, and come to the agreement to shoot the dog to put it out of its misery. As soon as the shot is fired, killing the dog, the actual owner of the dog comes running out yelling and screaming. The man who made the call says, “I told you to keep that dog out of my yard!” as the cops look at each other and run off.
In October 2011 it was rumored that the show would be revived on Netflix. The producer’s main reason for the revival was because they only produced 88 episodes during their original run, and would have liked to reach the 100 episode milestone. Comedy Central has sole rights to the show and is not currently involved in negotiations. The show is available on DVD.
The movie Reno 911! Miami was released February 27, 2007. The film grossed 10.4 million and ranked #4.
