Accessibility

Alcatraz East welcomes the general public to its exhibitions and programs. Tickets are required for admission. Visitors who need special assistance to tour Alcatraz East or participate in its programs should contact Alcatraz East a minimum of fourteen days prior to their visit so that Alcatraz East will have sufficient time to arrange for appropriate assistance. Alcatraz East will make a reasonable effort to accommodate all of its visitors’ needs.

Wheelchair Accessibility

Alcatraz East is wheelchair accessible, with an elevator accessing both floors. Alcatraz East does not have wheelchairs available for use, but guests are always able to bring their own necessary devices.

Visually Impaired

Audio tours are available for our guests with severe vision impairments. Trained service animals are permitted to accompany visitors with disabilities. For guests with lighting sensitivity, a flashlight may be requested.

Service Animals

The museum follows the ADA guidelines for allowable service animals. Trained service animals are welcome to accompany any guests who require their assistance due to a disability. All other pets or animals are not permitted in the museum.

Per ADA guidelines, service animals are:

  • Dogs of any breed and size
  • Trained to perform a task directly related to a person’s disability
  • Service animals are not emotional support or comfort dogs, because providing emotional support or comfort is not a task related to a person’s disability


  • Service animals must be housebroken and must behave and not bark, growl, jump up on or lunge at other guests or Alcatraz East team members. Corrective action may be taken if service animals do not behave properly while on-site.
